DoT rejects Vodafone’s application for service renewals in three service areas

Vodafone Group PLC’s (VOD.LN) Indian unit has disclosed this Friday that Indian Regulator DoT has rejected its permit letter, disallowing it to continue its services in three service areas. Vodafone wants license for the continuation of its services in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The present licenses are going to expire in November 2014.

Vodafone is India’s second largest telecommunications company by number of its users. This is big setback for the company, affecting the subscribers as well.

“This decision is against the interests of our several million customers in these cities/circles,” says Vodafone India Ltd.
The decision is important for Vodafone to continue services in the lucrative metropolitan service areas. Being one of the largest telecommunications operators, Vodafone has it as a challenge.
What India’s telecommunications department has to say about all this is still awaited. Let’s hope for a fair decision!
