Uninor being directed to generate UPC for MNP, to reimburse Mumbai and Kolkata subscribers balance

25 February 2013 489 views No Comment

Uninor has received strict orders from India’s telecom supervisory body Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in view of its shut down network:

  • TRAI has asked Uninor that it should make particular provisions at its company operated stores and call centers.  Here subscribers would come and submit their requests to port to other networks from Uninor’s now shut downed network.
  • TRAI has given orders to all other mobile operating companies to warm welcome Uninor’s customers and take their portability request as per rules.
  • TRAI has posed the generation of Unique Porting Code (UPC) for mobile number portability to Uninor. This is to make possible the portability of their mobile numbers to other networks (via mobile number portability service).
  • Uninor is being directed to reimburse the prepaid balance amount of its Mumbai and Kolkata GSM users because Uninor has not been providing any services in these two places.
  • TRAI has instructed Uninor to issue MNP procedure, which would work for porting of mobile numbers.
  • Uninor, as pointed out earlier, has to return the prepaid balance amount too and these two are to be published in Mumbai and Kolkata local newspapers and Uninor websites.
