MTNL Becomes Official Telecom Service Provider for CWG 2010

Make a global presence; Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) has won a bid to establish an exclusive and dedicated telecommunication network for upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 (CWG’10).

The Central Government approved Rs.182Crore budget for it. MTNL has designed the network with multiple redundancy using high capacity Internet Protocol / Multi Protocol Label Switching (IP / MPLS) Technology. MTNL would also provide Dark Fibre along with IP/MPLS at no cost to the Government.

The system will cater various requirements such as, transmission of Games Data, Security Data, High Definition (HDTV) Broadcast Signal, etc between Sports Venues, International Broadcasting Center, Main Press Center, Master Control facilities, etc.

The proposed network will cover up two separate networks;

1.    First network will supply coverage to all Games Applications, Administrative & Games Real Time Applications, Video Surveillance for security agencies, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), and Internet Services at all designated venues along with management system. The network system is called Managed Data Network (MDN).

2.    And second network will offer an exclusive coverage for video application to facilitate Uncompressed High Definition Studio to Studio (UHDSS), video transport from stadium to IBC, and Cable Access TV (CATV) Broadcast Network. This network is called Broadcast Network.
