SingTel and Airtel- together in Additional Spectrum Allocation Case

27 March 2013 598 views No Comment

Singtel, Singapore’s top telecom company shakes hands with Airtel. Singtel says that it has complete trust in the company’s mutual governance standards, which are kept under Sunil Mittal’s leadership. A proof of it is that Airtel’s 32% stakes are held by Singtel.

A special CBI court had called the present and former top names in telecom on Tuesday. These include Bharti Airtel Chairman and Managing Director Sunil Mittal too. The purpose is to inquire about their alleged involvement in additional spectrum allocation in 2002.

Sunil Mittal has been ordered to reappear before the court on April 11, 2013. The court summons refers to the additional spectrum awarded in 2002/2003 according to the policy of the government of India. The government has made it clear that the spectrum was according to the policies. It made its point valid through Parliament and by the court affidavit.

On Wednesday, Singtel acknowledged their trust in Airtel saying, “We are confident that Bharti Airtel and Mittal have always upheld and practiced the highest standards of corporate governance in all aspects of the company’s operations, including the acquisition of spectrum. We trust that due legal process in India will prevail and are confident that Bharti Airtel and Mittal will be vindicated before the courts,”
