Bharti Airtel to stop 3G services in seven circles

15 March 2013 459 views No Comment

Bharti Airtel might stop providing 3G services to seven circles by the end of this month, as ordered by Department of Telecom (DoT). The company does not provide satisfactory data services to these areas. The action has to be taken within next 15 days i.e. the end of this month.

Airtel might be charged a fine worth Rs 350 crore or Rs 50 crore for each of the seven circles. Telecom Minister Kapil Sabir has already approved the action.

Airtel was ordered to terminate 3G pact in areas where the company does not have 3G spectrums, but was giving its services. This order was passed in September 2012. But up till now, here in the seven circles, Bharti Airtel has been providing roaming 3G services through Vodafone and Idea. A similar order may be imposed on Vodafone or Idea as well. However fine for these two companies has not been finalized yet.
