TRAI has intended to consider more reviews about tariff lowering. TRAI has extended the date to 5th April for giving opinions about tariff rates while on roaming. Written comments are to be submitted by 18th March.

TRAI

“Keeping in view the request of stakeholders for extension of time for sending their comments, it has been decided to extend the last date for submission of written comments up to April 5, 2013 and for counter-comments up to April 12, 2013,” TRAI said in a statement.

TRAI has proposed to lower call and SMS rates while on roaming, as per pan India roaming facility policy.

TRAI has put forward a new norm too, Home Price Rule. Under this rule, the mobile billing will be the same while on roaming or not otherwise.

Rates and the differences:

  1. For each outgoing Local call, user is charged 1 Re while on roaming, whereas normally at home circle it costs 72 paisas only.
  2. For each outgoing STD call, user is charged Rs. 1.5 while on roaming, whereas normally at home circle it costs 90 paisas only.
  3. For each incoming call, user is charged 1 Re/min while on roaming.
  4. For each outgoing SMS, user is charged Rs. 1.5 while on roaming, whereas normally it costs Re 1 for local SMS and  Rs 1.5-3.45 on STD SMS at home circle

When the home operator doesn’t have any network in the roaming circle, the rates go even higher. So TRAI has now decided to lower these rates and lessen the burden at user’s pockets.
